Each spring, food lovers across the nation anticipate the harvest of Georgia’s Official State Vegetable, the famous Vidalia® Onion. The Vidalia community celebrates the occasion with a four-day festival that’s packed with fun-filled activities that offer something for everyone. The Vidalia Onion Festival has been featured on The Food Network and recognized as one of the Five Don’t-Miss Festivals Across the U.S. by MSNBC and a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event. Join us for a sweet time in Vidalia! The fun starts before the festival officially begins with the Miss Vidalia Onion Pageants, the Vidalia Onion Culinary Extravaganza, Tales from the Altamaha and the Carnival. The festival weekend kicks off with a children’s parade and a Movie Under the Stars on Thursday evening downtown. Friday features sidewalk sales in the downtown Historic District during the day and the Official Opening Ceremonies, Street Dance and Fireworks Friday night. The excitement builds on Saturday with a cannon-fire start to the Kiwanis Onion Run, the Arts and Crafts Festival with the famous Vidalia Onion Eating Contest, Air Show, Carnival, Onion Recipe Contest and Public Tasting, and the Vidalia Onion Festival Concert featuring Blackberry Smoke! This is only a taste! You’ll have to come to Vidalia to experience the “whole onion.”
